C1: Blum, Bishop Neumann spoil Auburn’s first home playoff game in 12 years

AUBURN – Brandon Blum ran for four touchdowns and the No. 10 Bishop Neumann football team eliminated No. 7 Auburn from the Class C1 state playoffs Friday night, 42-28.

The 157-pound running back had touchdown runs of 58 yards, 25 yards, 43 yards and 6 yards. He finished with 184 yards on the ground on 10 carries.

Senior quarterback Eli Vedral threw for 140 yards and a pair of scores to junior running back David Lilly. The pair connected from 50 yards out and 15 yards out. Vedral also had 57 yards on the ground.

The Cavaliers finished with 452 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs had only given up 167.0 yards per game this season – ranked third in Class C1.

Auburn seniors Baily Darnell and Drew Dixon accounted for a pair of scores each. Darnell took an option toss from Dixon and scampered 55 yards for his first touchdown of the night. He also had a 63-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Dixon ran in scores from 1 and 6 yards out.

Dixon finished with 133 total yards and Darnell had 125. The Bulldogs gathered 251 total yards of offense.

Bishop Neumann improves to 8-2 and will host No. Pierce (10-0) next Friday in the second round. Pierce defeated Chadron Friday afternoon, 45-12.

Auburn ends the year at 8-2 for the second consecutive season.
