Sophomore guard Ty-Shon Alexander helped Creighton snap its four-game losing streak last week, leading CU to victories over Georgetown and Butler. And the league took notice.
Alexander was named the Big East player of the week Monday.
It’s the first such honor for any Creighton player this year. Freshman Marcus Zegarowski was the conference’s freshman of the week on Dec. 21.
Alexander had 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists at Georgetown on Jan. 21. His 3-pointer with less than a minute remaining was the game-winner in CU’s 91-87 victory.
Then on Friday against Butler, Alexander finished with 19 points, four rebounds and two steals. He was responsible for nine of CU’s final 16 points in the 75-61 win.
Alexander shot 50 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the 3-point line (8 of 16) last week. On the season, he ranks seventh in the Big East in scoring with 17.6 points per game.
Creighton will host St. John’s on Wednesday.
