Creighton opens Seton Hall series with victory behind Mitch Ragan two-hitter

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Mitch Ragan threw a two-hitter to lead Creighton to a 5-1 Big East win over Seton Hall on Thursday afternoon.

Ragan was two outs away from a shutout before allowing a Sebastian Santorelli home run. Seton Hall’s other hit was a single in the sixth inning.

Creighton built a 3-0 lead in the second inning as the Bluejays scored runs on a Will Hanafan single, a wild pitch and an Isaac Collins groundout. Collins added an RBI triple in the sixth and a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Besides Collins’ two-hit, three-RBI day, Jake Holton had three hits and Jason Allbery scored twice for the Bluejays.

Creighton improves to 20-8 overall and 3-1 in Big East play. The teams continue their series Friday at noon.
