It took Crete junior Morgan Maly less than a month after receiving an offer from Creighton to commit to play basketball for the Bluejays.
Maly unofficially visited Creighton on Dec. 4, and received an offer the same day.
“I really thought things over and talked with my parents about what I want and went with my gut,” Maly said. “Creighton has everything I want so I just pulled the trigger.”
Maly is averaging 21.1 points and 8.1 rebounds this season for the Cardinals.
“I really like the coaching staff and the vibe I get from the culture and the family environment that Creighton has,” she said. “I also like that it is close, and if I did choose to go there, a lot of my family and friends could come and watch, which would be nice.”
The 6-foot forward chose Creighton over scholarship offers from UNO, Texas-Arlington, Denver and South Dakota State. Colorado State, Gonzaga and South Dakota also had been in regular contact but didn’t offer a scholarship.
The Jays also secured a 2020 commitment Wednesday from Emma Ronsiek, a 6-foot-1 forward from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ronsiek helped lead O’Gorman to a Class AA state championship as a freshman. She averaged 19.5 points and 7.8 rebounds her sophomore season.
