David City Sweeps Class C With Senior State Championship

CENTRAL CITY – The David City seniors have made history.

Post #125 claimed its second senior state title, the first in more than 60 years, with an 11-2 victory over Wilber at Kernel Field on Thursday night.

The last time David City were senior state champions was in 1951, but that didn’t stop the 2017 team from putting in a performance to remember.

Joe Lance threw a complete game on 119 pitches, allowing just two runs on seven hits while striking out five.

DC held a 4-2 lead heading into the 7th, but they closed the door on any hope of a Wilber comeback by plating seven runs in the top half of the inning thanks to a two-run single by Brandon Daro (1-for-4, 2 RBI, R) and and three-run double by Ryan Worm (1-for-3, 3 RBI, BB).

Hunter Cerveny gave a valiant effort on the mound for Wilber, striking out seven on 106 pitches.

With the state championship David City swept Class C this summer. DC claimed its first ever junior state title with a 6-5 win over Creighton in St. Paul on July 20th.
