Defense Leads Pioneers to Victory in Falls City

FALLS CITY, NE — The Nebraska City Pioneers forced three turnovers and beat the Falls City Tigers 14-9 on Friday night at Jug Brown Stadium.

Falls City (3-4) started the game strong.  The tigers started a first-quarter drive backed up within their 10 yard line but drove into Nebraska City (3-4) territory to set up a field goal.  Lukas Aldana knocked a 29-yarder through the uprights to open the scoring.

Then Nebraska City took control.  After recovering a fumble at the Tigers’ 15-yard line, the Pioneers punched in a score on a QB sneak from Bryce Levy.

Falls City coughed up the ball at the start of the next drive and Nebraska City capitalized again.  This time, Levy whipped a screen pass to wide receiver Tyler Levy who raced 59 yards to paydirt.  They scored their two touchdowns in a span of 30 seconds of game time.

The Tigers collected their only touchdown in the fourth quarter.  Collin Cook lobbed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Trey McAfee on a fourth down play.  Falls City missed the PAT so the score sat at 14-9.

Nebraska City did not score in the second half but managed enough first downs in their final drive to run out the clock.  The drive was highlighted by a 31-yard pass from Bryce Levy to Tyler Levy to convert a third and long.
