Glenwood girls finish fourth at state team tennis tournament

WATERLOO, Iowa — Glenwood settled for fourth place Saturday in its first appearance in the final four of Class 1-A girls state team tennis, falling 5-0 to eventual champion Waterloo Columbus and then 5-4 to Cedar Rapids Xavier in a marathon third-place match at Byrnes Park.

In the third-place match, Glenwood got singles wins from No. 1 Ellie Osterloh, No. 2 Brooklyn Taylor and No. 4 Ruby Crow, along with the No. 2 doubles team of Osterloh and Crow. However, Xavier won the other five matches to earn the narrow victory.

Osterloh (10-8) and Taylor (10-6) both won third-set super tiebreakers in singles, as did Osterloh and Crow (10-4).

Columbus went on to beat Pella 5-1 in the championship to clinch its sixth straight state team title.
