INDIANAPOLIS — Isaac Collins’ RBI double in the 10th inning gave Creighton an 8-7 win over Butler in the Bluejays’ Big East opener Friday afternoon.
Creighton trailed 5-2 after seven innings before scoring four in the eighth. That rally was capped by Collins’ RBI single.
The Jays (18-7, 1-0 Big East) added another run in the ninth before Butler’s Harrison Freed hit a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the inning to tie it 7-7. The Bulldogs had the winning run at third base with two outs before CU closer Bobby Kametas recorded a strikeout to end the threat.
In the 10th, Will Hanafan had a one-out single before Collins drove him in with a double to left center. Kametas retired Butler in order to close out the win.
Jake Holton led CU’s offense with three hits and two runs scored, while Collins and Jared Wegner each had two hits and two RBIs.
Creighton and Butler conclude their series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
