NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Jake Kalish pitched five effective innings out of the bullpen to lead the Omaha Storm Chasers to a 4-2 win over Nashville on Wednesday night.
Kalish, who entered in the second inning, allowed one run and two hits while striking out six to earn his first win this season.
Andres Machado shut out the Sounds for the final three innings to earn his first save. He got out of a jam in the eighth and retired the last five batters he faced.
Omaha snapped a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning, scoring twice on a throwing error. The Chasers had the bases loaded with one out when Frank Schwindel grounded out to the pitcher. The Sounds forced out Nicky Lopez at home plate, but catcher Jett Bandy then made an errant throw, allowing Erick Mejia and Cheslor Cuthbert to score.
Mejia led the Omaha offense with two hits and two runs scored. Lopez, a former Creighton star, also went 2 for 4, raising his average to .353.
Omaha and Nashville play their series finale at 6:35 p.m. Thursday.
