Six teams secure titles at Nebraska high school state volleyball in Lincoln

Millard North and Omaha Skutt were among six teams crowned Saturday at the Nebraska high school state volleyball tournament in Lincoln.

Along with the Mustangs and SkyHawks, Wahoo, Blue Hill, Fremont Bergan and Bruning-Davenport/Shickley won state championships at the Devaney Center.

In Class A, Millard North swept Lincoln Pius X 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 to win its second state title in the past three years.

Omaha Skutt swept Elkhorn South 25-17, 25-21, 25-14 to win its fourth straight Class B championship. Nebraska recruit Lindsay Krause led the way with 15 kills for the 27-5 SkyHawks.

Mya Larson had a team-high 24 kills to pace Wahoo to an 18-25, 25-20, 25-14, 21-25, 15-10 victory over Lincoln Lutheran in the Class C-1 final. Wahoo, the defending state champion, went back-to-back in its fourth trip to state.

One day after rallying from 14-11 fifth-set deficit to defeat top-ranked Stanton, No. 3 Blue Hill came back from a 19-10 fourth-set deficit to defeat No. 4 Hartington Cedar Catholic 25-16, 25-21, 14-25, 26-24 in the Class C-2 state championship.

Fremont Bergan’s dominating run at the state volleyball tournament ended Saturday in the best way possible — the school’s first championship. The Knights completed their third sweep in three tourney matches, rolling past Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 25-15, 25-18, 25-14 in the Class D-1 final.

After seeing a 14-11 lead slip away in the fifth set in the Class D-2 title match, Bruning-Davenport/Shickley did not falter, earning a 21-25, 26-24, 25-12, 18-25, 18-16 win over No. 2 Ewing.
