Malcolm eliminates Johnson County Central from playoff contention

TECUMSEH – Levi Dorsey finished with 109 yards receiving and a touchdown, Eli Waring threw for 192 yards and a pair of scores, but the Johnson County Central football team fell to Malcolm, 20-14 on a foggy Friday night in Tecumseh.

Kole Kleespies added a touchdown with a 27-yard sliding catch in the end zone.

“These kids battled hard all night, as they have all season, right down to the last play,” Thunderbirds Head Coach Gabe Meints said. “We tried to give it a run in the last few minutes of the game as we were forced to throw the ball, and we did have a few plays to get us down the field.  Unfortunately, we just fell up short in the end.”

Both teams were held scoreless in the first half. With fog rolling in during the second half, Johnson County Central struck first on a 22-yard strike to a sliding Levy Dorsey in the end zone.

The Thunderbirds (3-5) third-straight loss eliminates them from playoff contention, but Meints says their final game with Syracuse on Friday will be crucial.

“We need to have a very focused week of practice, and do our best to come out with a victory on Homecoming, as 4-5 sounds a heck of a lot better than 3-6, especially after a season in which this team has competed with every opponent that we have faced, and that has been our goal.”
