Mitch Ragan threw seven sharp innings to lead Creighton to a 4-0 win over Kansas State on Friday night at TD Ameritrade Park in the opener of a three-game series.
Ragan (5-1) allowed three hits, walked none and struck out nine. John Sakowski pitched the final two innings to complete the shutout.
Creighton scored all its runs in the third inning against Wildcat freshman Griffin Hassall, who entered the night having allowed four earned runs in 19 1⁄3 innings.
After the Jays loaded the bases with one out, Parker Upton was hit by a pitch to bring in the first run. Will Robertson followed with a two-run double down the right-field line. After an intentional walk reloaded the bases, Jack Strunc was hit by a pitch to make it 4-0.
Creighton had three of its five hits in the game in the third inning. Kansas State, meanwhile, didn’t advance a runner to second base until the seventh inning.
Creighton brings a four-game winning streak into the second game of the series Saturday at 2 p.m. Kansas State has lost nine of 10.
