NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – Both the Nebraska City and Bennington boys basketball teams will be returning several members from last year’s team.
The Pioneers hope to improve on their 5-18 record from last winter with more consistency.
Nebraska City returns most of their starting lineup when they tip-off the season on the road against the Badger Friday night at 7:30.
According to first-year head coach Matt Thompson, the starting lineup will be changing on a game-to-game basis, as there is not a lot of separation with the top nine guys.
A few of the players to keep your eye on will be seniors Sam Williams, Jace Becker and Tyler Lechner; and Juniors Tyler Levy, Langston Hoover, Bryce Levy and Jaydin Aldana.
Hoover emerged late in the season last year when coming off of the bench and has found his way to the starting lineup for the first game of the season.
Meanwhile, the Nebraska City girls basketball team will also have a new coach at the helm. Justin Parr takes over for a team that finished 2-20 last season.
The Pioneers lost only three seniors from last year’s squad. One of those seniors was leading scorer Brenna Turner.
This season, they will aim to use their experience and leadership to lead them in a positive way. Some of the key players to watch out for this season will be the three seniors; Gretchen Sornson, Allison Baker and Trinity Fox; along with junior Mackenzie Anthens and sophomores Selena Belquier and Abby Balfour.
Both the Nebraska City girls and boys basketball games at Bennington will be carried live on KNCY 1600 AM, 105.5 FM and ncn21.com.
