NEBRASKA CITY – Peru State College cheerleading, which becomes a competitive sport in the fall of 2019, is adding a second member from Nebraska City High School.

Senior Johna Tharp signed her letter of intent on Thursday and says she’s been looking at the Bobcats since her sophomore year.

“I started cheerleading my freshman year at NCHS. Just trying out my senior year, I just thought maybe I wanted to cheer. I had the coach from Peru (Brooke Earnest) come look at me and watch me cheer. She offered me a scholarship and I accepted.”

Tharp says meeting new people, the small town and being close to home has her excited to attend Peru State.

She joins teammate Chanel Ehlers on the Bobcats cheer team.
