Class A

Bellevue West (Richard Mintken): *Emma Mullendore, sr.; Samone Crawford, jr.; Samiah Crawford, jr. Outlook: New coach is hoping a veteran team can improve enough to make the state tournament field. Mullendore is a three-sport athlete who’s No. 1 in her academic class. She missed medaling at state last year by one stroke.

Columbus (Anne Robertson): Aspen Luebbe, sr. Outlook: Luebbe is a four-year player who tied for fourth last year in Class B. Coach is working with a small, limited-experience group.

Elkhorn South (Mimi Ramsbottom): *Emma Lefler, sr.; *Erin Peabody, sr. Outlook: Coach said it’s a rebuilding season for the defending state champion, “but we’re completely ready for the challenge.” Three spots in the lineup are open. Lefler tied for 14th at state.

Fremont (Matt Burg): Outlook: The Tigers return five letter winners and have two transfers from Fremont Bergan that will create competition to be in the varsity lineup.

Grand Island (Kelli Jeffries): *Paige Pehrson, jr.; *Liliana Zoellner, jr.; *Gabi Lockard, sr.; *Samantha Hansen, jr. Outlook: The Islanders graduated just No. 1 player Faith Harris from last year’s third-place team. Pehrson was eighth at state.

Lincoln High: *Emily Smith, sr.; *Elizabeth Garza, jr. Outlook: Aside from their returning state qualifiers, the Links are a young team.

Lincoln North Star (Scott Friesen/Erin Miles): Abby Hull, sr.; Katelyn Osmond, so. Outlook: Hull is the Navigators’ top golfer and leader. Several freshmen will compete for spots.

Lincoln Northeast (Alex Svehla): Riley Wrhel, so.; McKenna Harrington, sr.; Kennedy Chase, so. Outlook: The Rockets are strongest in the sophomore class.

Lincoln Southeast (Joe Schlegelmilch/Johnna Graff): *Katie Whitehead, sr.; Emma Gevelinger, sr.; Natalee Gann, sr. Outlook: After missing out on qualifying for state last year by two strokes, the Knights are banking on Whitehead, who tied for 14th at state, their other seniors and some talented freshmen to get there this time.

Lincoln Southwest (Jim Danson): *Brynn Sundquist, jr.; *Sadie Steele, sr. Outlook: The Silver Hawks, last year’s Class A runners-up, have two of the state’s top freshmen in Nebraska Girls Amateur champion Kate Strickland and Neeley Adler. Sundquist was sixth at state.

Millard North (Eric Welte): *Jazmine Taylor, jr.; *Julia Dooley, sr.; *Megan Niksick, sr.; *Malainey Wiemers, so. Outlook: “We have a very good chance to get back into the top three or four at state” after finishing eighth in 2017, Welte said. Freshman Katie Ruge won the 14-15 division on the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour. Taylor was seventh at state.

Millard South (Greg Geary): Kali Herbolsheimer, jr.; Lilly Saub, jr. Outlook: Since the Patriots graduated four, Geary said this team will be young and inexperienced.

Millard West (Kent Speer): *Izzi Puk, sr.; *Hailey Reavis, jr.; *Brie Wakefield, sr.; *Shelby Bergholz, jr. Outlook: The Wildcats should contend in every tournament with a veteran lineup that could include senior Addi Dannehl.

Omaha Central (Brent Larson): *Lauren Tse, sr. Outlook: The Eagles graduated four regulars, but have juniors Olivia Smith and Safiyah Abdessalam to add to the lineup.

Omaha Marian (Robert Davis): *Jalea Culliver, sr.; *Mary Neppl, sr.; *Scarlett Wedegren, jr.; Ava Matthies, jr. Outlook: Last year’s sixth-place team at state is looking for a higher placement with its four returners. Neppl is recovering from a broken wrist suffered this summer hitting out of the rough. Culliver tied for fourth at state in 2017.

Omaha North (John Hjelle): Elyse Saxton, jr.; Makenna Parks, jr. Outlook: The two returners are part of a large junior class. Anne Rogers is a freshman who could start.

Omaha Westside (Barry Glanzer): *Lili Fogland, sr. Outlook: Fogland, who was 11th at state in 2017, will be joined by freshmen Kaitlyn Hanna and Claire Bennett.

Papillion-La Vista (Joe Pudenz): *Mackenzee Holloway, sr.; *Elly Speece, jr.; *Caitlin Wilson, jr. Outlook: While Holloway (tied for 14th at state in 2017) is his only senior, Pudenz said his Monarchs are “youthfully experienced.” Ten girls played summer golf.

Papillion-La Vista South (Pete Goecke): *Alana Thornton, sr.; *Ciera Haynes,so.; *Taylor Wilson, sr.; *Rebekah Strohmyer, jr. Outlook: A returning state-qualifying team “wants a lot more,’’ Goecke said.

Ralston/Omaha Mercy (Wes Kosch): Clare Gonka, so.; Grace Gonka, so. Outlook: Of the 17 girls out for the team, about half are new to the game.


Beatrice (Dick Stuart): none.

Blair (Ross Udey): *Torrie Loudner, sr.; Rachel Parks, so.; Kaia Stewart, so.; Kylie Quick, so. Outlook: The Bears have more experience than last year.

Chadron (Loni Watson): *Taurie Poulter, sr.; *Maddie Pelton, sr. Outlook: The Cardinals were Class C runners-up last year. “We’ll have to be mentally tough to compete for our first year in Class B,” Watson said.

Hastings (Rick Christy): *Anna Cafferty, sr.; Courtney Burns, jr. Outlook: Coming off an eighth-place team finish, the Tigers hope sophomore Natalie Brandt fills the No. 3 spot. Cafferty tied for 11th at state.

McCook (Joel Arterburn): none. Outlook: Small squad may take only three girls to some meets.

Omaha Roncalli (J.J. Stoffel): Outlook: A team with all newcomers.

Omaha Skutt (Rev. Patrick Harrison): *Ann Gregory, sr.; Katie Augustine, sr. Outlook: New coach said the SkyHawks have five solid players and hope to qualify for state.

Scottsbluff (Brock Ehler): *Jayda Ahrens, sr.; *Hassie Hood, sr. Outlook: Ehler said some girls are finding a more valued interest in the game. Emily Krzyznowski is a freshman to watch.

Seward (Jim Placke): Outlook: Senior Vicki Radke is a fourth-year player.

Waverly (Michael Cobelens): *Sierra Sander, sr.; *Jaidyn Hall, jr.; *Claire Westerholt, jr. Outlook: New coach said he hopes his three returners will be breaking 90 by midseason.


Elmwood-Murdock (Curt Backemeyer): Morgan Mills, sr.; Rylee Hogue, so. Outlook: The Knights don’t have enough girls for a team.

Omaha Brownell-Talbot (Ryan Norman): *Cecan Porter, jr.; Emalie Wightman, jr.; Ava Mumgaard, jr. Grayson Shirey, so. Outlook: The Raiders missed qualifying for state last year by one stroke. Freshmen will add depth. Porter hopes to medal at state.

Wahoo (Curtis Carlson): *Shelby Griego, sr.; Gabi Girmus, sr. Outlook: Coach hopes Griego, who was 26th last year, can be in medal contention.


Adams Central (Katie Feezell): *Haylee O’Dey, sr.; Karley Oberheide, sr.; Emma Reinhard, so. Outlook: New coach is excited about the three returning players. O’Dey tied for 11th last year, when the Patriots were in Class B.
