Norfolk Needs Just Two and a Half Innings to Rout South Sioux

NORFOLK – Coach Tonja Ripple knows this week presents a big opportunity for her Norfolk softball team, and it appears the message is getting across.

The Panthers began a weeklong home-stand Tuesday with a 2 1/2-inning 19-0 win over South Sioux City on Tuesday.

Norfolk brought 21 batters to the plate in a 15-run first inning, just three off the Class A record for runs in an inning.

The Panthers were perfect defensively, meanwhile, with pitchers Sydney Rader and Paeton Coler combining to set the Cardinals down in order in all three innings.

The win improves Norfolk to 7-4, their best start through 11 games since 2005, and they have a good chance to get more, with a home double-header against Fremont coming up Thursday, before their home invite on Saturday.
