Peanut-free tonight at Omaha Storm Chasers game

No nuts allowed at tonight’s Omaha Storm Chasers baseball game at Werner Park. President and General Manager Martie Cordaro says this is one of their most important community events of the year as they want to provide a safe environment for everyone to enjoy an evening of baseball.

Cordaro says, “This is our fifth annual peanut free night and we worked with the Asthma and Allergy Center each year to make sure we are spreading what peanut allergies are to provide a safe environment for those with peanut allergies, not just children but adults as well, to be able to go to an outdoor sporting event.”

Cordaro their ballpark staff started cleaning at the end of their last home stand. That way they have time to power wash and sweep up but vacuum the berm, grass area, the rock beds and wipe down all the seats, tables and picnic areas.  All items that contain peanuts or peanut products are removed from the menu for the night to provide a safe environment for all attending.

Cordaro says people come up and thank the staff during the game and they also receive letters of thanks for providing the peanut-free night. Cordaro says, “It is our partner that allows us the opportunity to do and support the mission.  They should be thanking the Asthma and Allergy Center.”  This also provides a chance to raise awareness about food allergy and for patients to learn more about new products, research and education.
