OSKALOOSA, IA – The Peru State women’s golf team capped off their 2016-17 season with a fourth-place finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Championship. The championship was hosted by William Penn University and was played at the Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
The fourth place finish was a better finish than last season when the same team finished in a tie for fifth in the conference race which was conducted on the Bobcats’ own course, Table Creek of Nebraska City.
Peru State had a two-day total of 687 after having shot a team 346 on Monday and then coming back with a 341 on Tuesday.
The hosts, William Penn, won the championship with a two-day total of 607 as they easily defeated the other eight teams.
The Bobcats were led by their two seniors who both earned Heart All-Conference recognition which is based off their performances from the entire year. Jessica Weickert (Beatrice) finished in a tie for seventh after having rounds of 81 and 75 for a two-day total of 156. The 75 was Weickert’s best effort in four years and was one shot short of the school record. Marisa Pribnow (Lincoln) had rounds of 80 and 79 for a two-day total of 159 to finish in a tie for tenth.
The tournament was won by Kimberly Nelson of Grand View who had rounds of 73 and 77 for a two-day total of 150 as she captured the individual title by one stroke.
