Prep softball roundup: Allen and Wellsandt dual on pitcher’s rubber in Auburn’s 14th win

AUBURN – Auburn pitcher Kylie Allen and Syracuse starter Sydney Wellsandt each gave up only three hits, but Wellsandt gave up one more run than Allen and the Class C1 No. 3 Auburn softball team edged Syracuse Thursday, 2-1.

Allen pitched the complete game, giving up the one run on three hits, while striking out 11 and walking one.

Wellsandt gave up the two runs on three hits and registering two strikeouts over six innings.

Both of the Bulldogs’ runs came in the bottom of the first. Carolyn Billings led the team at plate, finishing 2-3.

Auburn improves to 14-2 and will compete in the East Central Nebraska Conference Tournament on Saturday.

The Rockets are now 4-12 and will also play in their conference tournament this weekend. The Nebraska Capitol Conference Tournament will be held on Saturday.

Plattsmouth 3, Waverly 2: Haylee Heim gave up two runs on five hits, while striking out four for the Blue Devils. Alyx Curran-Lewis finished 3-4.
