Recently acquired Jorge Lopez leads Chasers in shutout victory

New Omaha pitcher Jorge Lopez and five relievers combined on a six-hit shutout as the Storm Chasers blanked Salt Lake, 5-0, in a series finale Tuesday at Werner Park.

Lopez (4-3) made his second start for Omaha since being acquired from Milwaukee by Kansas City in the recent Mike Moustakas trade. He pitched a season-high 5-1/3 innings and struck out seven in the win.

The 25-year-old pitcher hadn’t made a start this season prior to last week. He had previously made 34 relief appearances this season between Milwaukee and Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Humberto Arteaga doubled in the opening run for the Chasers in the second inning. Paulo Orlando led off the fourth with a solo homer off 20-year-old Bees starter Jose Suarez (0-4) to double the lead.

Omaha capped the scoring with a three-run eighth. Frank Schwindel extended his season-high hitting streak to 15 games with an RBI single. One out later, Ramon Torres clubbed a two-run homer to right.
