Sixth-seeded Northwest Missouri State upends third-seeded Grand Valley

Elkhorn South graduate Braden Wright threw two first-half TDs, then the sixth-seeded Bearcats took over with their run game to upend third-seeded Grand Valley in the Division II Super Region 3 playoffs. Northwest rushed for 356 yards. Grand Valley cut the deficit to 21-17 with 1:02 left in the third quarter, but Isaiah Strayhorn ran 84 yards for a TD 20 seconds later to put Northwest in control. Strayhorn rushed for 171 yards and Josh Caldwell had 147 . Jack Richards added nine tackles and two interceptions to pace the Bearcats, who play at Ferris State next Saturday.

Trent Solsma, who threw for 368 yards, hit Connor Niles for three TDs passes in the first quarter in the NAIA playoff opener for top-ranked Morningside. Niles had 13 catches for 190 yards. He now has 122 catches for 2,133 yards on the year. Omaha Burke grad Arnijae Ponder rushed for 131 yards and two second-half TDs.

Dickinson State 14, Northwestern 6

NAIA No. 15 Dickinson State held No. 5 Northwestern to 286 yards in a first-round upset. Dickinson intercepted Tyson Kooima four times, including twice in the final 2:41. Dickinson went up 14-6 with 1:29 left, then secured the win on the final pick with 30 seconds left. Jacob Kalogonis rushed for 107 yards for Northwestern.
