Two ninth-inning home runs help Chasers ice Baby Cakes

METAIRIE, La. — Frank Schwindel and Paulo Orlando homered in the ninth inning to lift the Omaha Storm Chasers to a 4-2 win over New Orleans on Monday night.

Omaha led 1-0 most of the night before New Orleans tied it in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Tomas Tells.

But the Chasers (14-24) quickly responded as Schwindel led off the ninth with a home run to left field. Cam Gallagher had a one-out single before Orlando added another home run to left to give the Chasers a 4-1 lead.

Those insurance runs were needed as Austin Dean tripled to lead off the bottom of the ninth and Austin Nola followed with an RBI double. But reliever Mike Broadway struck out the next three batters to give the Chasers back-to-back wins. Omaha had lost eight of nine before that.

Omaha and New Orleans (19-19) finish their series at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
