Wayne’s Season Ends with a State Tournament Loss to Alliance

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – Alliance pitcher J.J. Garza threw a complete game shutout and the Spartans eliminated Wayne from the Class B Junior Legion State Baseball Tournament, 9-0, on Sunday in Nebraska City.

Garza allowed just four hits, he struck out 11 and walked one.

Garza also got Alliance on the scoreboard first, driving in a run on a single in the first inning.

The Spartans scored three more runs in the seventh inning on a three-run shot from E.J. Gomez.

Alliance finished with 12 hits. Peyton Pinedo, Trevor DuBray, and Garza each collected multiple hits.

Josh Lutt was tagged for the loss. He threw three and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs, eight hits and one strikeout.

Jacob Sherman, Lutt, Tyler Gilliland, and Jacob Kneifl all had one hit.

Alliance improves to 31-9 and will play Auburn (14-12) in an elimination game Monday at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on B103 (103.1 FM, B103.fm and the B103 app).

Wayne finished the season 17-13.
