Historic Murals, Press Box and Soldier Remembrance Run On NC Agenda

NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City City Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. today at city hall.

The agenda includes a new press box at Clemmy Holmes Field, Memorial Way murals and a Honor and Remember Nebraska Chapter event.

The Nebraska City Baseball Association is donating construction of a new press box at the American Legion baseball field in Steinhart Park. The existing 12’ by 8’ structure would be replaced by a 24’ x 12’ foot structure.

The $30,000 project is scheduled for completion before the next baseball season.

Jim Meier, director of the Honor and Remember Nebraska Chapter, is requesting approval to use public facilities as part of a 6,000 mile run for fallen soldiers and the 20,000 who have served in the “War on Terror.”

The run is scheduled to enter Nebraska City on June 6 for a patriotic ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Building at 6:30 p.m.

The Wirth Foundation has donated an additional $28,000 for construction of stand-alone panels to serve as historical information markers for the Nebraska City history mural on the east side of Memorial Way.

Kent Schwartz is expected to construct the markers focusing on river boat immigration, business activity and pioneer agriculture.
