Nebraska City Joining Brownfields Assessment Coalition

NEBRASKA CITY – City commissioners agreed Monday to join a Brownfields Assessment Coalition with Lancaster County.

City Administrator Grayson Path said a focus of  the coalition will be properties that do not sell or have not redeveloped due to perceived environmental concerns.

He said developers may not be willing to pay the costs of a study to find out if there is actual contamination, so the land is not used. The coalition would offer grants to help pay the costs of an environmental study.

Southeast Nebraska Development District would be administrator of the program.
