Ordinance Would Allow ATVs In Nebraska City Limits

NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City City Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2.

The agenda includes a $20,000 NRD grant for additional “sea wall” improvements at Steinhart Pond, promotion of Lonnie Horstmann as street foreman and the preliminary plat for Arbor Crossing at the intersection of highways 2 and 75.

The council will also consider approval of ATV and utility vehicle operations within the city limits.

The ordinance would require ATVs to be registered at city hall, stay under 30 mph and be equipped with a safety flag. Only people 19 years and older may operate the ATV on city streets and helmets are required.

ATVs can be operated on sidewalks only during parades, removing snow or caring for downtown hanging baskets.

Only city staff may operate an ATV on 11th Street, Fourth Corso and Central Avenue from Fourth to 11th streets.
