Albert L. “Shorty” Burger, age 93 of Nebraska City passed away on Friday; Sept. 14, 2018 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.
He was born on August 19, 1925 at rural Nebraska City, NE; the son of Ernest Herman and Augusta Katherine (Huss) Burger. He attended school at Zion District #37 Country School at Paul, NE.
He was united in marriage to Rose Mary Gottwald on June 1, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Paul, NE.
Albert was a life-long farmer and retired in 1981. After his retirement, he worked at Farmers COOP and also drove the WOTA Bus. He loved farming and raising livestock and was an avid card player. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife Rose Mary Burger of Nebr. City; daughters: Beverly Bond and friend Jim of Wahoo, NE, Gail Bond and husband Richard of Nebr. City and LeAnn Burger and friend Pete of Missouri; grandchildren: Kurt Bond and wife Kari of Longmont, CO, Lisa Jewell and husband Mike of Syracuse, NE and Jeremy Bond and wife Kelly of Elkhorn, NE; three great grandchildren: Katelyn, Kyle and Kaden Bond all of Longmont, CO; sisters in law: Maxine Burger and Marcella Gottwald both of Nebr. City and Bernardine Fox of Missouri; other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son in law Gary Bond, brother Harry Burger, sisters: Rosie Morris, Clara Heng and Helen Niebruegge and a nephew Dennis Heng.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday (9/24) at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebraska City with Fr. James Morin celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday with a rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. – all at Gude Mortuary.
Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Lourdes School.
