BETTY JEAN (SHOOK) MORRICAL LAFFERTY, age 93 of Tabor, IA, died Friday, November 30, 2018 at Tabor Manor following a brief illness. Betty was one of four children of Clyde Lavern Shook, Sr. and Florence Mae (Gray) Shook born November 7, 1925 in Emerson, IA. Betty graduated from the Malvern High School in 1940 at the age of 16. In 1943, she attended Peru State College obtaining her teaching certificate. She then taught in Rural Schools in Strahan and Malvern, IA.
Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth Morrical on December 1, 1945 at the Tabor Congregational Church. They made their home on a farm north of Tabor. They were blessed with three children, Linda Kay, Richard Duane and Steven Rex. Betty was a mother, a homemaker and a Farmer’s Wife. She enjoyed growing a large vegetable garden, canning and cooking for the help at Harvest Time. She also enjoyed a couple of clubs with her mother-in-law.
Betty later married Roy E. Lafferty on July 15, 1977 in Ralston, NE. A few years later they moved to Mt. Home, AK then to Cabool, MO and later to Bolivar, MO. They each enjoyed camping, dancing and gardening. When Roy passed away, Betty moved back to Omaha, NE to live with her daughter.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Sr. and Florence Shook; both of her husbands, Kenneth Morrical and Roy Lafferty; 2 brothers Marion Shook and Clyde Shook, Jr.; brother-in-law, Arno Asmussen; and grandson, Larry D. Morrical. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kay Lawrence of Tabor, IA; 2 sons, Richard Duane Morrical and wife Jessie of Tabor and Steven Rex Morrical and wife Cindy of Glenwood, IA; 3 grandchildren, Lee Long of Nebraska, Scott Morrical of Glenwood, and Michelle Morrical of Tabor; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Geraldine “Gerry” Asmussen of Council Bluffs, IA; several nieces, nephews and extend relatives.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Westlawn Hillcrest Cemetery, 5701 Center Street in Omaha, NE. There will be no viewing or visitation and memorials will go toward funeral expenses.
