Bonnie Jean Goodman, age 69 of Nebr. City passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln, NE.
Bonnie was born on October 23, 1948 in Nebraska City, NE; the daughter of Robert Donald and Frances Corine (Burnham) Goodman. She graduated from Nehawka High School in 1967 and then went on to attend Peru State College where she obtained her Bachelors Degree in teaching in 1971.
She began her teaching career in Burwell, NE and then went on to teach in Clarks, NE and finally came to Nebraska City in the fall of 1998. During her years of teaching she continued her education and received her Masters Degree. Bonnie was an Art Teacher for grades 1 through 12 and was the Media Teacher at Hayward when she came to Nebraska City.
Bonnie served on the Morton James Public Library Board for four years and she was a member of the Otoe County Historical Society. She enjoyed playing Bridge and golf and was an avid reader. Bonnie was also a big supporter of Nebraska Volleyball and Football.
She is survived by her sister Betty Shoemaker and husband Ron of Nebraska City, NE; nephews: Robert James Shoemaker and wife Susan of Nebr. City, NE and Scott Alan Shoemaker of Nebr. City, NE; grand niece Lauren Shoemaker of Nebr. City; uncles: Thomas Burnham and wife Ruth of Millard, NE; Robert Burnham and wife Goldie of Sioux Falls, SD; Dennis Burnham of Omaha, NE and Alec Burnham and wife Viola of Ohio; cousin Donald Brockway of Lexington, NE; other family and friends.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Frances Goodman; sister Shirley Hodges in 2005; grandparents Lloyd and Vesta Burnham and Joe and Fannie Goodman; and uncle George Goodman.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Dorthea Fairbanks officiating. A Private Family Inurnment will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Nehawka, NE.
Memorials may be directed to a scholarship being established in Bonnie’s name.
