Charles Edward “Sonny” Bates, age 81 of Nebraska City died February 19, 2019 at Nebraska City Care And Rehabilitation Center. Sonny was born April 17, 1937 in Nebraska City, the son of Marshall and Hazel (Horner) Bates. He lived in the Nebraska City and Dunbar areas his entire life and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 8 in Nebraska City and loved hunting and fishing. Sonny formerly worked at O.P.P.D., Concrete Industries and Arnie’s Bagelicous before his retirement. Survivors include his children, Eddie (Ellen) Lasater of Denison, TX; Teresa Murry and Teri Bates, both of Hamburg, IA; grandchildren, Randal Lasater, Jami Lasater (Aaron Heitman), Raelene Lasater (Josh Dellinger), Cara Adams (Bryan), TJ Clark (Mary), Trenton Murry, Tara Clark (Dave Borrego) and Jacob Murry; great grandchildren, Andrew Peeler, Zoey Murry, Caylee Adams, Zayden Murry, Nicoli Clark, Natalie Clark, Kinslee Adams, Ryker Adams, Riggs Heitman, Gracie Heitman, Randi Lynn Borrego, Brooklyn Michel, Savanna Michel and Hailee Michel; brother, Lynn Ericson (Janice) of Lincoln; special niece, Bobbi Teten of Nebraska City; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rebecca; daughter, Gail Bates; great grandson, Tyson Murry; brother, Marshall “Bud” Bates; sisters, June Martin and Julie Henderson; infant sister, Patricia Bates.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 25, 2019 at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with burial in Rock Bluffs Cemetery near Plattsmouth.

Visitations will be from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home with the family greeting friends during that time.
