David D. Schreiner, age 71 of Lincoln, NE (formerly Nebr. City) passed away Monday (2/19/18) at Tabitha Care Center in Lincoln.
He was born on Dec. 9, 1946 in Nebr. City, NE; the son of Harry J. and Ramona G. (Kreifels) Schreiner. He attended school in Nebr. City and graduated from Lourdes Central Catholic School-Nebr. City with the class of 1965. Dave entered the U.S. Army on May 12, 1966 and was honorably discharged on April 23, 1968. He served during the Vietnam War and was an Army Medic in Frankfurt, Germany.
He was united in marriage to Terry Brown in Omaha, NE and to this union a son Joseph was born.
David worked for the United States Postal Service for many years as a bag handler and retired from there. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV), American Legion, Knights of Columbus and was an Oblate of St. Benedict (Mt. Michael). He loved nature and outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a poet and touched countless hearts and souls. He would sing to those who came into his room at Tabitha. Most of all, he was a very prayerful, faith filled man who prayed constantly. His sufferings in life were offered to our Lord as prayer.
He is survived by his son Joseph Michael Schreiner and wife Emily of Sydney, Australia; a sister Rosemary Hicks and husband Dennis of Lincoln, NE, a brother Steve Schreiner of Nebr. City;
former wife Terry Osborn of Bellevue, NE; other extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Ramona, a sister in law Linda Schreiner and a niece Nicole McCown.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday (2/22) at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nebr. City; burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Detail.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday (2/21) at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.
Memorials may be given to the Otoe County Veterans Van or Lourdes Central Catholic School.
