Edith M. Dockweiler

June 13, 1929 - November 10, 2017

Edith M. Dockweiler age 88 of Weeping Water, Nebraska was born on June 13, 1929 in rural Weeping Water, Nebraska, to Harold and Dusine (Jensen) Thomassen. She passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, Nebraska.

Edith was raised and attended school in Weeping Water. She attended Cascade Rural School kindergarten through seventh grade and then went to Laurel Hill for her eighth grade year. Her high school years were at Weeping Water High School and she graduated with the Class of 1946. She later met J.F. Dockweiler at Pla Mor Ballroom in Lincoln. Their love of dancing brought them together, and the two were united in marriage on February 26, 1956, at the United Methodist Church in Weeping Water. They lived on Junior’s family farm in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, and farmed for the next 12 years until Junior’s death. Edith returned to Weeping Water and lived there her remaining years.

Edith was baptized Danish Lutheran and then later attended and became a member of the First congregational Church of Weeping Water.

She had many enjoyable times with all the Danish families in the community and kept in touch with relatives from Denmark for years. It was always a pleasure for her when visitors came from Denmark.

Prior to marriage, Edith worked and lived in Lincoln. She was employed by the Elgin Watch Factory and Russell Stover Candy Factory. Since Edith didn’t drive, she rode The Little Eaglet train home on the weekends. After she returned to Weeping Water, she worked at the Soil Conservation Office, Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Office, Extension Office, Upton’s Grocery Store, Jerry’s Market, Rathe’s Market, and the Ben Franklin which was owned by the Michelsen’s, Rathe’s, and Tiedeman’s.

She was a very organized person and everything in her home had a place and was neatly displayed. She thoroughly enjoyed music and most especially dancing. The Sunday afternoon Old Fiddler’s Dances at the Weeping Water Legion and the live country music at the Country Music Hall in Louisville gave her much pleasure and gained her many friends. She also enjoyed The Lofte productions for years. She spent many hours volunteering at the Weeping Water Senior Center Meal Site and enjoyed the company of friends and family.

She is survived by her Brother, Lyle (Jean) Thomassen of Weeping Water, NE; nieces, Christine (Rick) Abbott of Weeping Water, NE; Carol Thomassen of Weeping Water, NE; nephew, Harold (Corky) Thomassen of Weeping Water, NE. She is also survived by great nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
