HAZEL I. VANATTA, age 93 of Tabor, IA, died Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Tabor Manor following a brief illness. Hazel was born August 12, 1924 near Emerson, IA to William Reuben Rice and Bonnie Elizabeth (Edie) Rice. On October 12, 1942 she was married to Junior G. Vanatta in Rock Port, MO.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Junior Vanatta; son, Randy Vanatta; 3 sisters, Wanda Elsea, Darlene Proctor and Betty Garreans; and 3 brothers, Otis, Marlin and Donald Rice. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Bateman and Paul Nagel of St. Clair, MO; 3 grandchildren, Tycee Strawmier and husband Thomas of Bellevue, NE, J.R. Bateman and Kayla of Bellevue, NE and Brent Bateman and wife Shawri of Louisville, NE; 12 great grandchildren, Keegan Strawmier and wife Kailee, Kael Strawmier, Kaeden Strawmier, Kieran Strawmier, Isaac Bateman, Preston Bateman, Gemma Bateman, Addison Bateman, Ian Bateman, Wyleigh Bateman, Mason Bateman and Willow Bateman; brother, Wayne Rice and Daisy of Farmington, MI; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a natural hostess, cooking and caring for anyone that knew her. Her home was always open whether it be for a large family gathering, dear camps, bridge club, or a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll. Her sweet smile and wink will be missed by all that knew her.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Tabor, IA Cemetery with Chaplain Lisa Maas of Aseracare Hospice officiating. Visitations will be open after 5:00 PM Sunday with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA. Memorials will go to the family. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA is in charge of arrangements.
