Helen D. Ashbaugh, age 85 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Nebraska City Care & Rehabilitation.
Helen Dorothy Ashbaugh was born on October 5, 1933 in Lincoln, NE; the daughter of Henry Joseph and Ada Winifred (Greck) Winkler. She attended school in Lincoln and graduated from Lincoln High School.
She was united in marriage to John Carl Ashbaugh on January 22, 1972 in Nebraska City. They shared 40 happy years together before his passing on August 9, 2012.
Helen worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City in the housekeeping department for some 35 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the D.A.V., Eagles, and American Legion Auxiliaries.
She is survived by three step-children: Becky Graham of Mineola, TX, Jenita Ashbaugh of Norfolk, AR and Johnny Carl Ashbaugh, Jr. of Mineola, TX; three step-grandchildren: Brandi White of Mineola, TX, Tammie Moyer of Nebr. City and Ed Moyer, Jr of Nebr. City; seven step-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Eloise Hays of Omaha, NE and family friend Sally Benecke of Nebr. City; other family and friends.
In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers and brothers Clarence and Paul Winkler.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018 at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City with Rev. Keith Hunt officiating. Inurnment at Grant Cemetery in Grant, IA will be held at a later date.
