JIM D. COY, age 68 of Farragut, IA died Sunday, May 12, 2019 at CHI Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, NE after a brief illness. Jim was born February 12, 1951 in Shenandoah, IA to Eugene Eldon Coy and Clara Beatrice (Smith) Coy. He grew up on their family farm northwest of Farragut, IA. He graduated from Farragut High School in 1969. Jim went on to Milford Technical School to be an Auto Body Technician, and went to work in Malvern for LeRoy Viner, where he worked until 1977.
On April 20, 1974, he married Cristi Ann Nelson in Shenandoah. He then farmed with his brother-in-law Keith Mathis from 1977 to 1980. In 1980, he began work at Eaton Corporation. Between the years of 1985 and 1989, Jim and Cristi added 4 children to their family; Hannah, Jarod, Hilary, and Sam. In 1986, the family moved to Coin, IA where they attended the Methodist Church, coached little league baseball, and continued growing their family. Jim moved his family to the Coy family farm outside of Farragut in 2000. He retired from Eaton Corporation in 2018 where he had worked for over 35 years.
During his life, Jim enjoyed all things automotive, from race cars to his tractor collection. He also enjoyed the outdoors: farming, fishing, hunting, gardening, and tending his flowers and lawn. But most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends. You could often find him in the shop with a beer in his hand reminiscing. He considered his grandkids his greatest blessings.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Ridnour; and a nephew, Nathanael George. He is survived by his wife, Cristi Coy of Farragut, IA; 2 daughters, Hannah Graham and husband Kyle of Agency, MO and Hilary Miller and husband Adam of Sidney, IA; 2 sons, Jarod Coy and wife Amy of Braddyville, IA and Samuel Coy and wife Whitney of Omaha, NE; 8 grandchildren; Kenna, Logan, and Laurel Graham; Bennett Coy; Charlotte and Isaac Miller; Rowan and Oliver Coy; 5 siblings, Betty Kunkee and husband Roger of Plattsmouth, NE, Mary Mathis and husband Keith of Wasilla, AK, Larry (Short) Coy and Deb Maher of Farragut, Patty Rasmussen and husband Wayne of Sidney, Tammy Coy of Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law, Duane Ridnour of Sidney; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA with Pastor Carl Phillips officiating. Visitation will be open after 5:00 PM Wednesday with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Chapel. A Memorial Fund has been established and interment will be in the Farragut, IA Cemetery.
