KAREN JANE WEATHERHEAD, age 80 of Tabor, IA died Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Clarke County Hospital Extended Care Unit in Osceola, IA following an extended illness. She was born May 19, 1938 at the family home near Malvern, IA, the youngest of nine children born to George William Powers and Flossie Jane (Biggerstaff) Powers. Karen was married to Lisle Stanley “Stan” Weatherhead and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on June 1st of 2013.
Karen was a homemaker, later working as the City Clerk for Tabor as well as assisting Stan at his business, Stan’s Radio & TV Service in Tabor which he opened in 1951. They successfully operated their business for 45+ years. Their home was blessed with three children: John, Carol, and Jeff.
Karen was a member of the Tabor Congregational Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School and served on various committees. She was a 50-year member of Chapter GG PEO. In 2000, Stan and Karen fulfilled their lifelong dream of returning to Rome, Italy where Stan served his country during WWII.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Stan Weatherhead. She is survived by her son John Weatherhead and wife Kim of Jacksonville, FL; daughter Carol and husband Jay Wheeler of Osceola, IA; son Jeff Weatherhead and wife Lori of Little Elm, TX; sister Dorothy Madison of Glenwood, IA; sister-in-law Mary Wymore of Waconia, MN; brother-in-law, Merril Madison of Tucson, AZ; 10 grandchildren: Ty (Audrey) Wheeler, Brock (Nicole) Wheeler, Emily (Dan) Sullivan, Libby Wheeler; Leslie (Kate) Revaux, Joshua Weatherhead, Matthew Weatherhead, Kristen Weatherhead, Balin Weatherhead, and Preston Weatherhead; 7 great-grandsons: Beau Wheeler, Lincoln Wheeler, Teagan Sullivan, Liam Sullivan, Declan Sullivan, Abram Wheeler, and Fitz Revaux; one great-granddaughter: Felicity Wheeler; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the Tabor, IA Congregational United Church of Christ with Pastor Charmayne Harper officiating. Visitations will be open from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA. The family will be greeting friends from 9:00 AM until service time on Thursday at the Church. Memorials may be directed to Tabor Congregational United Church of Christ or to the Tabor Public Library. Interment will be in the Tabor, IA Cemetery.
