MARY ALICE STARR, age 87 of Tabor, IA, died Friday, May 25, 2018 at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood, IA following a brief illness. Mary was born June 19, 1930 near Thurman, IA in Fremont County to Alvin Meredith Hall and Maxine (Johnson) Hall. Mary married the love of her life, Harry Glenn Starr, on October 14, 1946. She was a compassionate caregiver and turned that passion into a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years. Mary was a wonderful woman who was loved, is missed, and will be forever cherished.
Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She showed immense pride in her three children, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending holidays, family get togethers, and various celebrations with her family and friends.
If there was anywhere Mary enjoyed spending time, it was in her large flower and vegetable garden. She enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labors with her loved ones, and Mary’s talent for cooking and baking was enjoyed by many. Her Christmas cookies were legendary. Not only could that woman cook, she was one heck of a piano/keyboard musician and could be heard singing her favorite songs of worship, especially on Sundays. She was a fiercely devoted Christian woman, and could put the fear of God into anyone, especially her grandkids.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harry Starr. She is survived by her daughter, Lea Anne Maynes and husband Richard of Spring Hill, KS; two sons, Harry Starr, Jr. and wife Carolyn and Gary Lee Starr all of Tabor, IA; four grandchildren, Becky Topscher, Mike Starr, Michelle Maynes, and Angela Maynes; six great grandchildren; sister, Rozella Houston and husband Gene of Shenandoah, IA; brother, Jim Hall and wife Gwen of Des Moines, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Family and friends will gather for prayer services 6:30 PM Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA with Mr. Gary Moles of the Bartlett, IA Community Church officiating. Visitations will be open after 5:00 PM Tuesday with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 6:30 PM Tuesday at the Funeral Chapel.
