Charles Raymond Underwood was born on February 13, 1932 near Rock Port, and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1950. He then graduated from Tarkio College with a degree in Engineering. In 1956 he married Muriel Elizabeth “Beth” Solzman, and they became parents of three children. Raymond served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Raymond was a longtime Rock Port Main Street businessman, owning and operating the Comfort Crew heating and cooling business for many years. He was active in the Ralph Greer American Legion, Post 49, Rock Port, and a board member of the Elmwood Cemetery Association. Raymond passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at a Rock Port healthcare facility at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Margaret Campbell. Survivors include his wife Beth of Rock Port; their children, Shawn (Jennifer) Underwood of Watsonville, California, Shannon (Greg) Evans of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mianne Irick of Portland, Oregon; nieces, Katherine Caradori and Amy Rogers; and nephews, David and Eric Solzman.
Services: Sunday, May 21, 2017, 2:00 pm, Atchison County Memorial Building, where family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Interment with military honors: Elmwood Cemetery. Memorials: Rock Port Senior Center or Elmwood Cemetery Association.
