Shirley Beth (Livingston, Starnes, Whipple) Hall, daughter of L. E. and Daisy Dean (Lowry) Livingston died on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the Ambassador Care Center in Sidney, IA following an extended illness. She was born on October 29, 1928 at the home of her Aunt and Uncle, Rosa and Bernard Shull, south of Farragut. Her early life was happily spent near a large extended family in Locust Grove and Madison Townships in Fremont County. She attended Country School in Locust Grove and Madison Townships through the 8th grade and graduated from Farragut High School where her joys included playing guard on the Girls’ Basketball Team and serving as the Drum Majorette for the High School Marching Band.

In September 1945 Shirley married John S. Starnes, Jr. To this happy union 3 boys were born: Curtis, Jeffrey and Mark. During the early years of their marriage, Shirley and John farmed north of Farragut. Later they operated a café and filling station in Sidney. Following 25 wonderful years of marriage, John passed away after a brief battle with cancer.

In December 1970 Shirley married Duane L. K. Whipple. At that time Shirley adopted Duane’s children Michael, Patrick and Robin, and Duane adopted Curtis, Jeffrey and Mark. During their wonderful years together, Shirley and Duane were enthusiastic supporters of the Sidney American Legion and the Sidney Iowa Rodeo. Duane died suddenly of a heart attack in 1982.

In the Fall of 1988, Shirley married Stuart Hall. Shirley and Stuart enjoyed nine happy years together traveling and visiting family and friends. Stuart died from complications of cancer surgery in 1997.

For over thirty years, Shirley was employed in banking in Sidney, serving as Vice President and Cashier of Fremont County Savings Bank. She also served as Treasurer of the Sidney Senior Center. Following her retirement, Shirley enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, shopping and spending time with her family and friends. Her home in Sidney was always a warm and welcoming gathering place for anyone who stopped by.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and her brothers L.E. Livingston, Jr. and Ira Eugene Livingston. She is survived by her sister Darene Gutchenritter of Imogene, her son Curtis and wife Jill Starnes of West Branch, Iowa, son Jeff and wife Marijo Starnes of Colo, Iowa, son Mark and wife Kathy Starnes of Jasper, Missouri, son Mike and wife Connie Whipple of Sidney, Iowa, son Patrick Whipple of Shenandoah, Iowa, and daughter Robin (Whipple) and husband Dan Jefferson of Oakland, Iowa. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She will be missed by all for her love of family, her friendship and her enthusiasm for life.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Victory Life Church in Sidney, IA with Pastor Craig Eberly officiating. Visitation will be open after 6:00 PM Monday with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Monday evening at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery near Sidney. A Memorial Fund has been established for the Sidney Senior Center, 2820 Northridge Rd., Sidney, IA 51652.
