Shirley M. Wright, age 81 of Dunbar, NE passed away peacefully at her home on November 27, 2017 with her family by her side.
Shirley was born on February 22, 1936 at rural Dunbar, NE; the daughter of Orval and Mable (Printz) Hunt. She lived in rural Dunbar until the age of 4 and then her family moved to Lorton, where she lived until she was 18.
She attended District 39 school in Lorton through grade 8 and then high school at District 75 in Dunbar. She graduated from Dunbar High School with the class of 1953 and then attended summer session at Peru State Teachers’ College. Shirley taught school at District 82 for one year. She was united in marriage to James E. Wright on March 20, 1954 at Clay Center, NE.
Shirley was very very involved in her community. She was an Election Board Worker for 48 years, she was the Clerk of the Dunbar Village Board and was an Officer for the United Presbyterian Women. She served as church treasurer, was a Sunday School and Bible School Teacher and played piano for Sunday School and Bible School. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and liked quilting, baking, growing roses and traveling.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband James Wright of Dunbar, NE; children: Dr. Debra Wright and husband Russell Ethridge of Grosse Pointe, MI; Pamela Young and husband Larry of Lincoln, NE and Brad Wright and wife Deborah Testa of Washington D.C.; sisters: Patricia Draeger of Dunbar, NE and Sally Stubbendieck of Lincoln, NE; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Wheeler, Jeffrey Soldan, Dr. Margaret Wright, William Ethridge, Kirby Wright, Dr. Meryl Ethridge, Madison Ethridge, Katelynn Young and Abigail Young; two great-grandchildren: Nalani and Brookelynn Wheeler; other family and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Orval and Mable Hunt and grandparents: Albert and Orilla Etta Printz and Frank M. and Rebecca Hunt.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Nebraska City with Rev. Dorthea Fairbanks officiating. Burial will follow in the Dunbar Cemetery near Dunbar, NE.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday (11/30) evening at Gude Mortuary in Nebr. City.
Memorials may be given to Tabitha Hospice or the First Presbyterian Church in Nebr. City.
