TWILA RANCK, age 72 of Tabor, IA, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Every Step Kavanagh House in Des Moines, IA following an extended illness. Twila was born July 20, 1946 in Maryville, MO to Bob Leon Holmes and Lena Bell (Sobbing) Holmes. On June 7, 1968, she was married to Lowell Allen Ranck.
Twila was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lowell Ranck. She is survived by her son, Chad Ranck and wife Barbra of Norwalk, IA; grandson, Dillon Ranck; 2 sisters, Nila (Joy) Waters and husband Dennis of Laurens, IA and Darla Taylor and husband Leo of Michigan; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
At a young age, Twila learned the discipline of piano, which she grew to respect and appreciate later in life. It led to her love of ballet and classical music. An annual tradition for her and Lowell was a trip to the Orpheum Theater in Omaha to watch The Nutcracker. Twila met Lowell while attending college at Northwest Missouri State University and they were married on June 7th 1968. In June of 1974 the couple welcomed their son Chad. Growing up Twila never missed an event in which Chad was participating in, whether it be sports, music, band or theater. One of the common bonds she shared with Chad was the love of Star Wars movies. Later in life she would often watch movies with Chad and her grandson Dillon, never missing a Star Wars film. From a young age Twila always wanted to be a teacher, and for 33 years taught English and related subjects at Fremont Mills Community School District before retiring in 2010. Her desire to give back to the community was reflected in her longstanding membership to local P.E.O. She had a love of books, in particular for the works of Stephen King and had an impressive collection. Her collection also expanded to that of Teddy Bears, many focusing on the art of teaching. She found a true passion for the Henry Doorly Zoo where she volunteered as a docent for 25 years. She held a special place in her heart for penguins, giraffes, and elephants. Later in life she enjoyed watching her grandson Dillon, just as she enjoyed earlier in life watching her son Chad, participate in baseball, football, basketball, and track.
