Another Peru State hoops player picks up a weekly honor

PERU – After averaging 21 points per game and almost snatching two triple-doubles in Peru State’s two games last week against Culver-Stockton and Evangel, Bobcat senior LJ Westbrook (Salem, Ore.) was named as the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

This was Westbrook’s first time earning the Heart recognition this season.

The Bobcats defeated Culver-Stockton (Mo.) last Wednesday night 87-82 during an exciting contest. This past Saturday the team racked up another win against Evangel (Mo.) 85-79 to add to their five-game win streak.

Against Culver-Stockton, Westbrook scored 27 points on 6 of 14 shooting (42.9%) and added ten rebounds, eight assists, and one steal.

In the contest with the Crusaders, Westbrook scored 15 points making 3 of 9 (33.3%). In addition, he grabbed ten rebounds, had one steal, and seven assists.

It is also to be noted that Westbrook held a 100% shooting rate at the free throw line making all 21 shots over the course of both contests.

Westbrook is listed in the following NAIA individual categories: eighth for free throw percentage (0.878), 19th in steals per game (1.941), 23rd in assists per game (4.471), 27th in total steals (33), and 28th in total assists (76) .
