Big Second Half Propels #1 William Penn Past Peru State

OSKALOOSA, IA – There was only a four-point difference at halftime, but William Penn (WPU) came back to score 61 points in the final 20 minutes for a 110-79 when over the visiting Peru State Bobcat men’s basketball team Wednesday night. The Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division action took place in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

The Statesmen had seven players finishing in double figures in scoring. Four Bobcats finished in double figures and were led by Quantice Hunter’s game-high 30 points. Hunter was also the team’s leading rebounder as he grabbed eight boards.

With the win, the NAIA’s top-ranked team improved to 22-2 overall and are 12-2 in conference play. Peru State fell to 16-9 on the year and 10-4 in the Heart North.

Peru State will now face the top team in the South Division on Saturday when they travel to take on Central Methodist in Fayette, Mo., at 4 p.m. The 12th-ranked Eagles are on a five-game winning streak and are 22-3 on the year. In the Heart South, they are 11-3.

William Penn Throttles Bobcats

OSKALOOSA, IA – A huge first quarter effort by the hosts was enough for William Penn (WPU) to topple the Peru State Bobcats Wednesday night in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The Statesmen outscored the ‘Cats 25-6 in the first period on their way to an 89-47 victory.

Lauren Beath led the team with 12 points.

With the win, William Penn improved to 18-5 on the year and are 12-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division. The loss for Peru State drops the Bobcats to 3-19 overall and 0-14 in Heart action.

The Bobcats have another tough road contest this Saturday when they take on Central Methodist in Fayette, Mo., at 2 p.m. Having played the best in the North, the ‘Cats now face one of the best in the South Division as the Eagles are 18-7 overall and are tied at the top of the division with a 12-2 conference mark. Central Methodist was receiving votes in the most recent poll.
