Former Peru State coach to be honored with tree planting
Mark Mathews

PERU – As part of this 2018 Peru State Hall of Fame celebration, a tree will be planted to honor the late Coach Mark Mathews. Mathews is being inducted posthumously into the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend.

The event will take place Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the softball field. One of Mathews’ favorite trees – a magnolia – will be planted. Peru State President Dr. Dan Hanson and the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer Todd Simpson are both scheduled to speak.

A plaque will be revealed noting the dedication of the tree to Mathews.

Later on Saturday during Peru State’s football game with Missouri Valley, a formal induction of all of the 2018 Hall of Fame members will occur.
