PERU – The Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) teams proved to be the best in the Heart versus Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Classic hosted at Peru State.
The Bobcats, along with their Heart colleague, Graceland, both won two games in the Classic held Friday and Saturday night.
Peru State topped Ottawa (Kan.) Saturday 81-71 to improve to 2-0 to begin the 2018-19 season. The Braves fell to 1-2 on the season.
Peru State made 27 of 60 field goals which included an almost unbelievable 9 of 14 from behind the arc for 64.3%.
Brandon Jones led the ‘Cats with 25 on 10 of 12 shooting from the floor.
This coming Friday night, November 9, Peru State will host Valley City State (N.D.) at 7 p.m. Valley City is off to a 1-3 mark for the year.
Bobcats hang on for season-opening win
PERU – After playing their first eight games on the road last season, the Peru State men’s basketball coaching staff was happy to be able host the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) versus Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Classic which started Friday night. The Classic allowed the Bobcats to start the season at home with basically a new team.
The ‘Cats were able to take the second game of the Classic Friday night as they defeated the University of St. Mary (USM) from Leavenworth, Kan., 77-74. While it was Peru State’s first contest, it was the Spires’ second and they dropped to 0-2.
Lyle Hexom led the Bobcats with 20 points.
