PERU – After averaging 30 points per game in Peru State’s final two regular season games, Bobcat men’s basketball player Lyle Hexom (Omaha) was named as the Heart of America Athletic Conference’s (Heart) Player of the Week. It was the conference’s final honor of the season as the postseason tournament begins this week.
This is the third honor for Hexom for the 2018-19 season. He earned his first conference recognition on December 31 and his second on January 23.
Peru State won a pair of games this past week. They topped Missouri Valley on the road 93-66 and then held off Baker (Kan.) 87-81 this past Saturday at home.
Hexom scored 38 points at Missouri Valley on 12 of 19 shooting which included making 10 of 16 from three-point range. In addition, Hexom had three steals, one assist, and one block.
In the win over the Wildcats, Hexom scored 22 points – all in the second half. He added six rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal.
Presently, Hexom is listed in 11 NAIA top individual rankings at the end of the regular season. Some of his top rankings include: third in blocks per game (2.567), third in total blocks (77), fourth in total rebounds (307), fifth in total rebounds per game (10.233), fifth in three-point field goals made (96), and fifth in defensive rebounds made per game (8.033).
Peru State will begin its post-season play at home on Thursday night when they host the winner between Culver-Stockton (Mo.) and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at 7 p.m.
