NEBRASKA CITY – An outstanding performance from top to bottom of the first five golfers for the Morningside (Iowa) golf team led to an easy championship win for the Mustangs in the Peru State Spring Invitational. The Invite was held at the Table Creek Golf Course in Nebraska City on Sunday and Monday.
The Mustangs ran away with the team title by shooting a 652 – 67 strokes better than second place Doane which finished with a 719 team total. The College of St. Mary was third with a score of 723 while the hosts were fourth with a 759 score.
Taylor Finke (Battle Creek) was Peru State’s top golfer and was the best golfer following the top five of Morningside as she claimed the sixth place medal. Finke had rounds of 86 and 83 for a two-day total of 169.
Lindsay Harlow (Dawson) was Peru State’s fourth-best golfer as she finished 20th with rounds of 101 and 99 for a two-day total of200. Sydney Neal (Peru) finished 23rd with rounds of 133 and 128 for a two-day total of 261.
Alyssa Brink (Oakland, Iowa) was 24th and had rounds of 150 and 137 for a score of 287.
The Bobcats have two more tournaments yet this spring. On Thursday, Peru State will compete in the Kaitlyn Erickson/Doane University Invite which will be held in Lincoln.
Then, their final tourney of the year will be the Heart of America Athletic Conference championship which will be contested in the Lake of the Ozark, Mo., on April 23-25.
