PERU – It was a battle of a pair of teams looking for their first Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) win of the season. The home team, in this case, the Peru State Bobcats, prevailed in four sets with a win over the visiting Graceland Yellowjackets.
The Bobcats doubled up the ‘Jackets in hitting percentage as Peru State hit .228 while Graceland hit .112.
Yorgelys Jaspe finished the match with 15 kills to lead the Bobcats while hitting .324.
Claire Cudney claimed game-high honors with a career-high 29 digs.
Hannah Burianek led all setters with 26 assists
The ‘Cats improved to 5-11 overall and 1-3 in the Heart. Graceland fell to 9-12 on the season and are still looking for their first conference win against four losses.
Peru State will continue to face Heart competition this weekend. On Friday, they will travel to Atchison, Kan., to take on Benedictine at 7 p.m. The Ravens are now 7-8 on the year and 2-3 in the conference having dropped three contests in a row.
On Saturday, the ‘Cats will face another set of ‘Cats when they take on Baker in Baldwin City, Kan., at 2 p.m. The Wildcats have dropped to 6-12 on the season and are 1-4 in the Heart as they also have lost three conference matches in a row.
