PERU, NE – It was another Jekyll and Hyde performance by the Peru State softball team on Wednesday as they gained a split with the William Penn (WPU) (Iowa) Statesmen.
The Bobcats looked good in the game one 6-2 win and then somewhat disappeared in a 9-0 loss in five innings to the Statesmen in game two.
With the split, the Bobcats are now 16-29 on the season and are 11-19 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart). William Penn is now 19-24 overall and 7-17 in the Heart.
The Bobcats have a pair of double headers this weekend – one conference and the final non-conference double header. The Heart match-up will be in Canton, Mo., against the Culver-Stockton in a double header on Saturday beginning at noon. It is a key set of games for both teams as they are battling for the final spot in the post-season tournament. The Wildcats are 17-21 overall and are 10-17 in conference action.
On Sunday, Peru State will head to Hastings to face the Broncos in a double header schedule to start at 1 p.m. Hastings, members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, are 24-18 overall.
