JOPLIN, Mo. – Despite having to move their “home opener” to Joplin, Mo, the Peru State baseball team swept a double header to begin its Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) play.
The Bobcats swept Graceland (Iowa) 4-3 and 5-2 to improve to an overall record of 4-8 and 2-0 in the Heart. The Yellowjackets fell to 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
The third game of the series was cancelled as the weather conditions did not look conducive for play on Saturday.
Peru State had its mid-week game with Kansas Wesleyan cancelled. The Bobcats are scheduled to have two more sets of conference games this coming weekend which the likelihood of the games being played in Peru are not good. The ‘Cats are to play Missouri Valley on Friday at 1 p.m. and they follow with Central Methodist (Mo.) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Missouri Valley has started the season with a 4-5 record while the Eagles are off to a 12-3 overall record and are also 2-0 in the Heart.
